JULY FOURTH CELEBRATION
The Town of Wendell and the Wendell Historical Society will host a July 4th celebration beginning at 4 p.m. The event will feature the unveiling of the downtown historic marker and a children’s parade. Children are encouraged to bring their decorated bicycles, tricycles, strollers, wagons, skateboards or dogs. The event will begin at the corner of Main and Depot Streets. The parade will travel to the J. Ashley Wall Towne Square where refreshments will be served.

WEIGHT LOSS

WENDELL LIONS CLUB
The Wendell Lions Club meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at 6:45 p.m. at the Wendell Lions Club building on Lions Club Road. Dinner is served. Visitors can attend the meetings and learn how to become a member of the club. Call 365-7000.

ZEBULON LIONS CLUB
The Zebulon Lions Club meets the first and third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Zebulon Lions Club building on East Lee Street. Dinner is served. Visitors are welcome. WENDELL ROTARY GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Wendell Rotary Club will host its annual golf tournament Sept. 10 at Wendell Country Club. The four-player captain’s choice tournament will begin at 12 p.m. with a shotgun start. To sign your team up, call Lee Dunn at 365-0771 or Michael Vereen at 269-1065. Prizes will be awarded during dinner after the tournament.

LIBRARY NEWS:

EAST REGIONAL LIBRARY
A registration event will be Wednesday, June 25, from 10 a.m.-noon for programs throughout Wake County offering public pre-K applications for children the year before they attend kindergarten. Families should bring birth certificates, proof of Wake County residency, proof of income and immunization records.

WENDELL PUBLIC LIBRARY
Family storytime with art will be Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. through July 30. This storytime features flannel boards, songs, rhymes, books and an art project for the younger kids.

ZEBULON PUBLIC LIBRARY
Storytimes will run from through Aug. 6 with Toddler Time (ages 18 months-3 years) Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.; and Preschool Time (ages 3-5 years) Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Kids' Book Club meets monthly for ages 9-12. Register at the library and pick up your book in advance.

Summer Reading Fun will be Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. through Aug. 5.

KNIGHTDALE RECREATION CENTER

A holiday trip to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville is being planned for Nov. 18-19. Cost is $219 per person, double occupancy. Package includes one-night hotel accommodations and one deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel. Eat a holiday dinner at the Biltmore Estate; go on a self-guided “candlelight” tour of the Biltmore House; visit and wine tasting at the Biltmore Estate Winery; and holiday shop at the Historic Biltmore Village Shops. EASTERN WAKE SENIOR CENTER

WENDELL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
On June 26, Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Capital Area Workforce Development Board will have a grand opening of Job Link Access Point at 11 a.m. The church is at 952 Morphus Bridge Road, Wendell.

A notary public class will be June 27 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the chamber office. Call the chamber for reservations.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Tender Loving Care Hospice serving Wake, Durham and Johnston counties is looking for people to commit to two hours a week to help with patients and families. Opportunities include sitting with patients in their homes or assisted living facilities, supportive phone calls, and office work. No medical care is involved and training is provided.
